Ej co za myslivec po poli polovał,
dy nic něspolovał, velmi se frasovał.
Stanuł se, pravił: Ej, muj Bože!
Bych nic něsplolovał, to byť němože.

Ej vy milí hoňci, čim pilněj šukajtě,
jak co naleznětě, to mi to dohoňte,
srnečku ej i zajička,
i švarnu divčinu meho srdečka.

Hoňci se rozběhli, čim pilněj šukali,
a jak co nalezli, to mu to dohnali:
šrnečku ej i zajička,
i švarnu divčinu jeho srdečka.

Hey, what kind of huntsman went hunting in the field,
having bagged nothing yet, he was quite full of grief.
He stopped and declared: Oh my good Lord!
I’ve bagged nothing at all, that beggars belief!

Hey, you kindly huntsmen, go seek and do it well;
when you discover prey, drive it towards my hunt,
a deer, yea and a hare to boot,
a pretty maiden too, one after my heart.

The huntsmen set off then seeking and did it well;
whenever they found prey, drove it towards my hunt:
a deer, yea and a hare to boot,
a pretty maiden too, one after his heart.
