 Balsam'scher umweh dich die Luft,
 Als dem magischen Brand der Phönix entsteigt,
 Wenn er sein eigenes Grablied singt.
 Schlaf nun und ruh in Träumen voll Lust,
 Du, die treueste, liebendste Brust!
 Sie sprach's, und Himmelshauch durchfließt
 Von ihren Lippen diese Stelle,
 Sie schwingt den Strahlenkranz und gießt
 Auf beider Antlitz solche Helle,
 Daß wie ein Heil'genpaar sie lagen.
 Indes die Peri wacht und Licht
 Mild strahlt in ihre Todesnacht,
 Bis ihre Seelen auferwacht.

que l’aire balsàmic t’envolti,
com s’enlaira el foc màgic del Fènix
quan ell entona el seu cant de mort.
Dorm ara i reposa en somnis plens de goig,
tu, el cor més fidel, el més amant!
Ella parlà, i un hàlit diví dels seus llavis
travessà aquest indret,
ella branda l’aurèola i aboca
damunt els dos rostres una aital claror
que resten ajaguts com una parella de sants.
Entretant, la Peri els vetlla i una llum
resplendeix suaument en llur nit de mort,
fins al despertar de llurs ànimes.
