Friend, I know a small country, 'Tis so beautiful, so beautiful, Even if it is now wearing its snowy garment Round about upon all the heights, My eye is so highly enchanted When it sees this country. And just wait until spring comes, Oh, you should see it then! When everything is happy and suns itself Round about upon these heights, Then you might well say that this Little country wears its loveliest festive garb! Its air is fresh and pure As you would not find elsewhere, Its villages are so trim and fine, The people within them so happy; Many a brook's cool water-spring Burbles forth here so freshly and brightly. Do you wish to know what it is called, This beautiful country That my song praises as glorious Even in its snowy garb[?] This land then, the like of which I have not found, is my dear homeland.
