So viele Quellen von den Bergen rauschen

Sonnet I
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Many springs rush down the mountains,
Some burst madly from the crags of stone,
Others prattle in their melodious tumble,
With nymphs listening attentively in the greenery.
Yet, even with their bewildering paths,
They finally all come together,
A stream, swelling into a fraternal flood
Rushing to replenish the splendid land.
Past castles that growl from solitary cliffs,
Out of the dark forest, amid the vineyards -
Gliding by into the fragrant distance.
Wandering to the sea, the remarkable sea,
Where contented isles reflect dreamily
And, upon the tides, the eternal stars rest.
