1 In the original version martir was "morir"

Recitative: Elvira, my soul, look at me, if you can, I'm announcing sad things to you. You will not see Fileno anymore, amidst the sweet bonds of tender feelings, amidst the murmur of kisses, drunken with joy, resting in your bosom. Wicked fortune compels me to leave this country, to leave you and go away and I cannot tell you when I will leave nor where I'll go. Aria: I will leave, but you will see fair Elvira, from my tears, how much I'm suffering in leaving. Without you, beloved joy, my life is more painful than any barbarous torture. Recitative: I'm going to the fatal stake and I'm already surrounded by troubles and torments. My dear Elvira, look at me, have mercy, look again for one moment at the grief in the mirror of my eyes. Take a last glance, as a son does from his dying father. Aria: Fair eyes, beloved beauty, adored soul, Elvira, farewell! I leave, but a deadly pain stays in my anguished bosom and in my heart.
