An ihrem Grabe kniet' ich festgebunden
Und senkte tief den Geist in's Todtenreich.
Zum Himmel reichte nicht mein Blick, es stunden
Des Wiedersehens Bilder fern und bleich.
Da so ich vorwärts Grauen nur gefunden,
Vergangne Tage, flüchtet' ich zu euch;
Ich ließ den Sarg des Grabes Nacht entheben,
Zurück sie tragen in das schöne Leben.

Schon huben sich die bleichen Augenlider,
Ihr Auge schmachtete zu mir empor;
Bald strebten auf die frischverjüngten Glieder,
Sie schwebte blühend in der Schwestern Chor;
Der Liebe goldne Stunden traten wieder,
Selbst mit des ersten Kusses Lust, hervor:
Bis sich verlor ihr Leben und das meine
In sel'ger Kindheit Duft und Morgenscheine.

Aferrat a la seva tomba em vaig agenollar
i vaig sumir el meu esperit al fons del reialme dels morts.
El meu esguard no abastava fins al cel,
les imatges del nostre retrobament restaven llunyanes i esblaimades.
Puix que mirant endavant només trobava basarda,
em vaig refugiar en vosaltres, dies del passat;
vaig fer treure el taüt de la tomba de la nit,
i me la retornaren a la bella vida.

Adés s’obriren les seves pàl•lides parpelles,
llangorosos, els seus ulls s’aixecaren cap a mi;
aviat els seus membres rejovenits maldaren amunt,
ella surava esponerosa en el cor de les seves germanes;
ressorgiren les hores daurades de l’amor,
àdhuc amb el goig del primer bes:
fins que la seva vida i la meva
es perderen en la benaurada flaire de la infantesa i la llum del matí.
