Doncs bé, tot això, el joc de mans de les flors i l’acolorit borrissol de la lluminosa prada a l’estiu, el cel delicadament blau, el bugonar de les abelles, doncs bé, tot això, el gemegant somriure d’un déu, no és pas el crit de forces inconscients per la redempció? La línia llunyana de les muntanyes que formosa i audaç rau en l’atzur, no és pas aleshores també tan sols un espasme, tan sols la tensió ferotge de la natura en efervescència, tan sols dolor, tan sols turment, tan sols palpejar sense sentit, mai reposar, mai benaurada emoció? Oh no! Deixa’m estar, malèvol somni de la sofrença del món! Et bressa una dansa de mosquits en la resplendor del capvespre, et bressa un crit d’ocells, un hàlit de vent que falaguer em refresca el front. Deixa’m estar, antiquíssim dolor humà! Tot pot ser turment, tot pot ser sofrença i foscor, però no aquesta dolça hora de sol, ni tampoc la flaire del trèvol vermell, ni tampoc la profunda i tendra sensació de benestar a la meva ànima.
