mit gold-goldenen Haaren,
schließt auf und zu die Himmelstür
und läßt die liebe Sonn' herfür.
Frau Holde ist ihr Name.

Frau Holde, gib uns der Sonne Schein,
auf daß wir voller Freuden sei'n
und deine Güte loben!

there lives a wondrously beautiful woman
with gold, golden hair,
she locks and unlocks the gate of heaven
and lets out the dear sun.
Mother Hulda is her name.

Mother Hulda, give us the radiance of the sun,
so that we may be full of joy
and may praise your benevolence!
