Liebesfrühling
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations: ENG ENG
Wenn die Knospen alle springen,
Und die Lüfte wehen lau;
Wenn die Vögel wieder singen
Unterm Himmel klar und blau:
Voller Sehnsucht möchtest wiegen
Du mit ihnen dich, mein Herz,
Über Wald und Ströme fliegen,
Immer höher, himmelwärts!
Aber ist dir aufgegangen
Liebesfrühlings Zauberlicht,
Ist's, als ob die Engel sangen:
Bleib nur drunten, komme nicht!
Menschenkind, was mag's dir taugen,
Mitzufliegen ohne Ruh?
Schauest in der Liebsten Augen
Ja den schönsten Himmel du!

Love's springtime
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When the buds are all bursting,
And the breezes blow balmily;
When the birds sing again
Under the sky, clear and blue:
[Then] you, my heart, full of yearning,
Wish to swing yourself upward with them,
To fly over forest and rivers,
Ever higher, heavenward!
But when for you there has arisen
The magical light of love's springtime,
It is as if the angels were singing:
Only remain down below, do not come [up here]!
Human, of what use might it be to you
To fly along without rest?
For in the eyes of your beloved you already
See the most beautiful heaven!
