Hier, wo das Meer wie Spiegel so glatt, 
Hier war Vineta, die herrliche Stadt, 
Hier klang zu hohem Orgelton 
Das Wallfahrtslied der Prozession: 
Salve Regina.

Das Meer ist falsch, das Meer ist tief, 
Weh dem, der in seinen Armen schlief! 
Die Stadt ist versunken.  Vergebens klang 
Der Mönche flehender Chorgesang:  
Salve Regina.

Das Meer, so tief, so spiegelglatt, 
Lebendig begrub es die heilige Stadt. 
Nachts, wenn das Heer der Sterne zieht, 
Enttäuscht den Wogen Vinetas Lied: 
Salve Regina.
