Sei mir gepriesen und gelobt, Du sangesfroher Rhein, Wo ich gekostet und geprobt So manchen goldnen Wein! An deinen Ufern rebengrün, Viel schöne Frau'n und Mädchen blühn, Wo aber wandelt Eine, Die schönste Frau vom Rheine? Ich weiß es wohl, doch nimmerdar Werd' ich es euch gestehn, Es würde sonst der Pilger Schaar Zu ihr auf Wallfahrt gehn. Ich saß bei ihr am Tafelrund, Doch mir erstarb das Wort im Mund, Stumm fand mich selbst beim Weine Die schönste Frau vom Rheine. Es schwebt gleich einer Königin Ihr lilienstolzes Bild, Ihr Wesen Anmuth, Huld ihr Sinn, Ihr Lächeln wundermild. Die Augen brunnentief und klar, Hoch krönet dunkellockig Haar Die Stirn von Elfenbeine Der schönsten Frau vom Rheine. La dona més bella del Rin

Sigues enaltit i lloat tu Rin, alegre i cantador, on he tastat i provat tants vins daurats! A les teves ribes verdes de vinyes hi ha moltes dones i noies belles, però on es troba l’única, la dona més bella del Rin? Jo bé que ho sé, però mai de la vida us ho diré, car altrament una munió de pelegrins anirien de romeria vers ella. Amb ella vaig seure a taula, però no em sortí cap mot de la boca, tot i bevent vi, ella em trobà mut, la dona més bella del Rin. La seva altiva imatge, blanca com un lliri, sura com la d’una reina, la seva natura és gentil, benigne el seu esperit, meravellosament dolç el seu somriure. Els seus ulls són profunds com un pou i clars, cabells negres arrissats coronen el front d’ivori de la dona més bella del Rin. Avança, cançó meva, amb un to fluixet i sona al seu voltant, a la seva residència, al seu tron, agenolla’t als seus peus. Tant com l’aigua que corre per la prada, tant com el vi que creix a la contrada, així, saluda de part meva la dona més bella del Rin!
