Auf eine holländische Landschaft

Müde schleichen hier die Bäche,
Nicht ein Lüftchen hörst du wallen,
Die entfärbten Blätter fallen
Still zu Grund, vor Alterschwäche.

Krähen, kaum die Schwingen regend,
Streichen langsam; dort am Hügel
Läßt die Windmühl ruhn die Flügel;
Ach, wie schläfrig ist die Gegend!

Lenz und Sommer sind verflogen;
Dort das Hüttlein, ob es trutze,
Blickt nicht aus, die Strohkapuze
Tief ins Aug herabgezogen.

Schlummernd, oder träge sinnend,
Ruht der Hirt bei seinen Schafen.
Die Natur, Herbstnebel spinnend,
Scheint am Rocken eingeschlafen.

Paysage hollandais

Ici les ruisseaux se glissent avec lassitude,
On n'entend pas le moindre frémissement d'air,
Les feuilles décolorées tombent
Au sol en silence, affaiblies par l'âge.

Des corbeaux, bougeant à peine les ailes,
Raturent lentement le ciel; là-bas sur la colline
Les moulins à vent laissent leurs ailes au repos.
Ah, comme l'endroit est somnolent!

Le printemps et l'été se sont envolés;
Là-bas la cahute, comme boudant,
Ne lève pas le regard, son capuchon de chaume
Rabattu jusqu'aux yeux.

Ensommeillé ou méditant indolemment,
Le pâtre se repose près de ses moutons.
La nature, tissant les brumes automnales,
Semble s'être endormie à sa quenouille.
