Ach Schildknecht, lieber Schildknecht mein, was redst von meiner Frauen, ja Frauen, und fürchst nicht meinen brauenen Schild! Zu Stücken will ich dich hauen vor meinen Augen. "Eur'n braunen Schild den fürcht ich klein, der lieb Gott wird mich wohl b'hüten, ja b'hüten." Da schlug der Knecht sein'n Herrn zu tot, das g'schah um Fräuleins Güte, ja Güte. Nun will ich heimgehn landwärts ein, zu einer wunderschönen Frauen, ja Frauen; ach Fräulein gebt mirs Botenbrot! Eu'r Herre der ist tot auf breiter Heide, ja Heide. Ara tornaré a casa, al meu país, vers una meravellosa dona, sí, dona; ei, donzella, doneu-me el pa del missatger!
