himmelab in tiefer Nacht!
Seh' ich Sonnen Gottes fallen?
Nein, der Herre Gottes Macht
hält bei den frommen Hirten Wacht,
und des Engels Worte schallen:
"Zaget nicht! Denn große Freud'
ist euch wiederfahren heut'.

Christus ward uns heut geboren,
euer Heiland, euer Herr!
Davids Stadt hat er erkoren,
und in Windeln lieget Er,
in der Krippe liegt der Herr!
Jedem Volk ward er geboren."
Hochgelobet in der Zeit!
Hochgelobt in Ewigkeit!

Ach, was können wir dir bringen,
dir dem Herrn der Herrlichkeit?
Unsre Liebe soll dir singen,
dir sei unser Herz geweiht,
unser Wille dir bereit!
Gieb zum Wollen das Vollbringen,
laß uns dein sein in der Zeit,
dein, o Herr, in Ewigkeit.

alas taivaasta pimeässä yössä!
Näenkö Jumalan aurinkojen putoavan?
Ei, vaan Jumalan, Herramme Voima
vartioi hurskaiden paimenien luona
ja enkelin viesti kaikuu:
"Älkää peljätkö! Sillä suuri ilo
on tänään koittanut teille.

Kristus on tänään syntynyt meille,
teidän Herranne ja Vapahtajanne!
Daavidin kaupungin hän on valinnut,
siellä hän makaa kapaloissaan,
seimessä lepää Herra!
Hän on syntynyt kaikille kansoille."
Olkoon hän ylistetty tässä ajassa!
Olkoon hän ylistetty iankaikkisuudessa!

Voi, mitä me voimme tuoda lahjaksi
