from Volkslieder (Folksongs)
Translation by August Kopisch (1799 - 1853)

Ach, sie schläft, nur ich benetze
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Our translations:  ENG
Ach, sie schläft, nur ich benetze
  Diese Wangen hier mit Thränen!
Lied voll Schmerzen, trag' mein Sehnen
Zu der Heißgeliebten Ohr!
Aber ach, wenn sie nun plötzlich
Mich erkennt am düstern Klagen? --
Nein, ich darf den Sang nicht wagen,
Denn er schreckt zu wild empor!

O ihr nächt'gen, milden Lüfte,
  Hallet lieblichere Töne,
  Wecket sanfter meine Schöne!
Ist sie wach, so heb' ich an:
Sing' ihr alle meine Qualen,
  Allen Kummer, alle Schmerzen,
  Alle Seufzer aus dem Herzen!
All' mein Leid klag' ich ihr dann!
