Ach, sie schläft, nur ich benetze
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Our translations:  ENG
Ach, sie schläft, nur ich benetze
  Diese Wangen hier mit Thränen!
Lied voll Schmerzen, trag' mein Sehnen
Zu der Heißgeliebten Ohr!
Aber ach, wenn sie nun plötzlich
Mich erkennt am düstern Klagen? --
Nein, ich darf den Sang nicht wagen,
Denn er schreckt zu wild empor!

O ihr nächt'gen, milden Lüfte,
  Hallet lieblichere Töne,
  Wecket sanfter meine Schöne!
Ist sie wach, so heb' ich an:
Sing' ihr alle meine Qualen,
  Allen Kummer, alle Schmerzen,
  Alle Seufzer aus dem Herzen!
All' mein Leid klag' ich ihr dann!

Ah, she sleeps, only I here
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Ah, she sleeps, only I here
Bedew these my cheeks with tears!
Ye pain-filled song, carry my yearning
To the ear of her whom I love fervently!
But oh, if she should suddenly
Recognize me in the dreary lamenting? --
  No, I dare not sing,
For it would startle her awake too wildly!

Oh ye mild, nighttime breezes,
  Echo more delightful tones,
Wake my lovely one more gently!
Once she is awake, I shall begin:
I shall sing to her of all my agonies,
  All anguish, all pangs,
All the sighs from out of my heart!
All my misery I shall then lament to her!
