Den langen Weg!
Froh schrittest du dahin und sangest laut
Im Waldgeheg.

Ich aber nestelte in bittrem Leid
Den kleinen Strauß
Verwelkter Veilchen von dem weißen Kleid --
Es war ja aus!

Und rings auf Erden war es Frühling doch,
Auf allen Höhn,
In allen Thälern lag die Sonne noch,
So wunderschön!

In such wondrous beauty!
