by Ernst Viktor Schellenberg (1827 - 1896), as Ernst Veit

Eifersucht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Willst du mein Schätzel sein,
Kehr' in der Mühl' nicht ein,
Denn drin wohnt eine Maid,
  Falsch allezeit.

Wenn sie zum Brunnen geht,
Hierhin dreht, dorthin dreht
Immer das Köpfchen sie,
  Die Schlange, die.

Sonntags am Nachmittag
Schaut's allen Leuten nach, --
Kopftuch und Busenband, --
  Ob man's erkannt.

Winter bringt Schnee und Eis,
Lenz bringt das Myrtenreis,
Sommer füllt Scheun' und Faß, --
  Ärger macht blaß!

Confirmed with Ernst Victor Schellenberg, Kleines Lieder- und Bilderbuch von Ernst Veit, Dresden, G. Schönfeld's Verlagsbuchhandlung, 1876, page 19.

Note: in many older editions, the spelling of the word "Ärger" becomes "Aerger", but as can be seen in how "über" becomes "Ueber" when capitalized, this is due to the printing process and not to rules of orthography, so we use "Ärger".
