Wohl sitzt am Meeresstrande
Ein zartes Jungfräulein,
Sie angelt manche Stunde,
Kein Fischlein beißt ihr ein.
Sie hat 'nen Ring am Finger
Mit rothem Edelstein,
Den bind't sie an die Angel,
Wirft ihn in's Meer hinein.
Da hebt sich aus der Tiefe
'ne Hand wie Elfenbein,
Die läßt am Finger blinken
Das goldne Ringelein.
Da hebt sich aus dem Grunde
Ein Ritter, jung und fein,
Er prangt in goldnen Schuppen
Und spielt im Sonnenschein.
Das Mägdlein spricht erschrocken:
»Nein, edler Ritter, nein!
Laß du mein Ringlein golden!
Gar nicht begehrt' ich dein.«
»Man angelt nicht nach Fischen
Mit Gold und Edelstein,
Das Ringlein laß ich nimmer,
Mein eigen mußt du sein.«

Au bord de la mer est assise
Une délicate jeune pucelle,
Elle pêche depuis plusieurs heures
Mais aucun poisson ne mord.
Elle porte un anneau au doigt
Orné d'une pierre rouge
Qu'elle attache à sa ligne
Et jette dans la mer.
Émerge alors des profondeurs
Une main blanche comme l'ivoire
Qui fait briller à son doigt
Le petit anneau d'or.
Émerge alors du fond des eaux
Un chevalier jeune et élégant,
Il resplendit dans son armure
Qui joue dans les rayons du soleil.
La jeune fille effrayée lui dit :
« Non, noble chevalier, non !
Laisse mon petit anneau d'or !
Je n'ai certes pas envie de toi. »
« On ne pêche pas les poissons
Avec de l'or et des pierreries,
Je ne laisserai jamais ce petit anneau,
Il te faudra être mon petit anneau ».
