Op de takken, loofbokalen, Giet je rijk je zilver uit En de maan met al haar stralen Hang j' als lamp in 't bladerhuis. Suiz'lende windjes, dat is jouw praten, Spinnende stralen weef je als draden, Wat maar jouw mond met tederheid raakt, Sluit zacht het oog en zinkt dan in slaap. En toch, dit is voor slapen te mooi, Kom op, en wek met 'n hoorntoernooi, Met heldere klanken, slag op slag Wat vroeg bedwelmd te sluim'ren lag! Het lijkt in het lover van 't bos al reveil, De vogels, zij menen: de nacht is voorbij, De dwalende reeën gaan schuw uit het zicht; Zij denken: nog even, het wordt al weer licht.
