Men inde i palmelunden
er der saa svalt og stille.
To smaa rislende springvand
ensomt i solskinnet spille.

En faun af cararisk marmor
blunder i skyggen, den dunkle.
Nedad hans nakke og skuldre
vandperler skinner og funkle.

Fremmede sære blomster
hede i solen dufte,
vugger de store bægre
sagte paa sommerens lufte.

Alle de blomster nikke
mod mig fra alle steder,
som om de vil mig fortælle
glødende hemmeligheder.

Mais dans la palmeraie
tout est fraîcheur et silence.
Deux petites fontaines ruissellent
à l'écart dans les jeux du soleil.

Un faune en marbre de Carrare
sommeille dans l'obscurité de l'ombre.
Sous son cou et ses épaules
des perles d'eau brillent et scintillent.

D'étranges fleurs exotiques
se chauffent à la lumière du soleil,
de grands calices se balancent
délicatement dans les vents de l'été.

De partout, toutes les fleurs
hochent leurs têtes vers moi,
comme si elles voulaient me raconter
de flamboyants mystères.
