Ein Meister bin ich worden
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG FRE
Ein Meister bin ich worden
zu weben Gram und Leid;
ich webe Tag und Nächte
am schweren Trauerkleid.

Ich schlepp' es auf der Straße
mühselig und bestaubt;
ich trag von spitzen Dornen
ein Kränzlein auf dem Haupt.

Die Sonne steht am Himmel,
Sie sieht es und sie lacht:
Was geht da für ein Zwerglein
in einer Königstracht?

Ich lege Kron' und Mantel
beschämt am Wege hin
und muß nun ohne Trauer
und ohne Freuden ziehn!

Je suis devenu un maître
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Je suis devenu un maître
Dans l'art de tisser chagrin et peine ;
Je tisse jour et nuit
Un lourd habit de deuil.

Je le traîne sur la rue,
Avec peine et dans la poussière ;
Je porte sur la tête une couronne
Aux épines acérées.

Le soleil qui est dans le ciel
Voit ça et rit :
Quel est donc ce petit nain
Dans un costume de roi ?

Je dépose couronne et manteau,
Plein de honte, au bord du chemin
Et maintenant je dois continuer
Sans tristesse et sans joie.
