You whose face was veiled And who sustained our needs, O sun of justice, Who was mocked with bended knees And struck too with whips, We beg you eagerly, Be well-disposed to us And by your mercy Lead us to glory. You who at the third hour Were led to your punishment, O Christ, by bearing on your shoulders The cross for us wretches, Make us thus to love you And to lead holy lives That we may be worthy to enjoy The peace of our heavenly homeland. Among the lashes you drank A most bitter drink of gall ; To every people reflecting on The torment of your death Grant virtue and salvation, O Christ redeemer of all. Honour and blessing Be to the crucified Son Who with his suffering Redeemed us from hell. On the bitter altar of the cross You poured out streams of blood, O Jesus Christ, kindly king, Sharer of the father's light; You who poured out the blood of Christ, O destroyer of the envious enemy, Make us go and come To the banquet of the lamb who provides. You who lay dead In the stone, innocent king, Make us rest in you And always give you praises, Help us, O Lord, Whom you have redeemed with your blood, And lead us to the heavenly Joys of eternal peace.
