Wie ruhig blinkt, aus wolkenloser Ferne,
Dein schönes Licht, du freundlichster der Sterne!
  Wie lieblich wallt im See dein zitternd Bild! 
Wie oft hast du, wenn ich vom West umfächelt
Auf Blumen lag, mir Seelenruh gelächelt,
  Der Sehnsucht bittern Harm wie oft gestillt!

Du blicktest auf den Bundeskreis der Brüder
Durch dieser Eiche sprießend Laubdach nieder;
  Die meisten sind verstreut, und wandeln fern!
Du schimmertest, beym schmerzlichen Umfangen
Der Trennung, auf den Zährenthau der Wangen
  Des Wiederfindens Hoffnung, schöner Stern!

Combien souvent, alors que j'étais éventé par la brise d'ouest,
Étendu sur les fleurs, ton sourire m'apporta le repos de l'âme,
  Combien souvent il m'a calmé l'amère douleur du désir !

Tu regardais en bas le cercle uni des frères
À travers la voûte étendue de ce chêne ;
  La plupart se sont dispersés et voyagent au loin !
Lors de l'étreinte douloureuse de la séparation, 
Tu étincelais sur les joues baignées de larmes,
  Espérance de retrouvailles, belle étoile !
