Bako, stara bako, babuščice mila, Jesil' i ti kadgod mala, mlada bila? Jesil' mogla kadgod ispraviti leđa? Jel' i tvoja kosa bila kadgod smeđa? Jel' i tvoja halja bila kadgod kratka? Jel' i tebe tkogod zvao "Dušo slatka?" Jel' i tebi tkogod kada lutku dao? Skrhala se valjda, pa ti je sad žao? Ta zar mora, bako, ostarjeti svako? Hočul' i ja, bako, ostarjeti tako? Moram li zar i ja tako da posijedim? Tako se smežuram, zgurim i poblijedim? Pa zar nema tome baš nika kvoga lijeka? Zar ne može nitko živjeti dovijeka?

Waren auch einst deine Kleider kurz und farbig? Hat dich einer einst genennet "Süss Herzchen?" Hat dir auch wer eine Puppe je geschenkt? Zerbrach sie schon, doch vielleicht tut es dir leid? Wird ein jeder, Oma, mit den Jahren alt? Werd ich auch einst, Oma, mit den Jahren alt? Werde ich so weisse Haare haben einmal auch? Kriege ich auch Runzeln, werd ich gebückt und blass sein?
