Translation by Friedrich Rückert (1788 - 1866)

Nach einem altitalienischen Sonett
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Mir im Herzen vorgenommen,
Gott zu dienen, hab' ich nun,
Um dereinst zum Ort zu kommen,
Wo man soll in Freuden ruhn.

In den Schooß des Paradieses
Möcht' ich doch allein nicht gehn.
Könnt' ich freun mich, ohne dieses
Blonde Haupt bei mir zu sehn?

Nicht alsob ich Erdenlüfte
Suchen wollt' in Himmelsaun,
Sondern weil mich's freuen müßte
In der Glorie Sie zu schaun.
