5. Auf dem Nachhauseweg 1945

Die Apfelblüten tun sich langsam zu beim Abendvers der süßen Vogelkehle. Die Frösche sammeln sich am Fuß des Stegs. Die Biene summt den Tag zur Ruh -- Nur meine Seele ist noch unterwegs. Die Straße sehnt sich nach der nahen Stadt, wo in der Nacht das Leben weiterglimmt, weil hier noch Herzen schlagen. Wer jetzt noch kein Zuhause hat, wenn ihn die Nacht gefangen nimmt, der muß noch lange fragen: Warum die Blumen leidlos sind - warum die Vögel niemals weinen - und ob der Mond auch wohl so müde ist und dann erbarmt sich leis ein Wind des einen, bis er im Schlaf die Welt vergißt.

Der Mond, der dort am Himmel steht, ist bleich wie mein Gesicht und wie mein Mund, der zitternd fleht, daß diese Nacht zu Ende geht; doch solche Nächte enden nicht. Es ist die groß Einsamkeit, die diese Nacht erfüllt, in der das bleiche Schweigen schreit und wilde Hoffnungslosigkeit stumm in das tiefe Dunkel brüllt. Und diese Nächte enden nicht mit eines Tags Beginn. Ihr Schatten dunkelt jedes Licht und ihre Düsternis zerbricht des Daseins wahrgeglaubten Sinn.
