Den Stern der Erde immerdar umkreist;
Er geht den Weg der Sehnsucht und der Liebe,
Die Straße, wo auch ich mich matt gereist.
Du hältst mich fest, ich kann dir nicht entfliehen;
Du reißt mich hin und bist doch ewig fern -
O meine Welt! mich stets dir nachzuziehen,
Ermüde nie, ich folge ja so gern.

Süßer Schlaf, laß mich allein!
Geh zu zwei geliebten Augen,
dass sie nicht mehr neue Pein
aus dem Quell der Nacht sich saugen.
Bett' ihn sanft, wie er geruht,
wenn mein Atem ihn umwehte,
während ich um Trost und Mut
zu den Sternen für uns bete.
