Jag längtar gränslöst
till Ch'ang-an.
Insekter surra höstlikt över brunnens kant, 
och frosten glittrar som små speglar på min matta. 
Lamplågan flämtar och min längtan växer

Jag lyfter undan skärmen och betraktar månen,

ensam som en blomma ibland mörka skyar. 
Däruppe himlens blåa djup,
därnere rastlöst dunkla vatten.

Hög är himlen, vid är jorden, mellan dem flyger bitter min sorg.
Kan mina drömmar aldrig tränga över bergen? 
Gränslösa längtan
som trycker mitt hjärta.
