Drei Gedichte von Hermann Hesse

Song Cycle by Horst Joachim Japtok

1. Die Stunde
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Es war noch Zeit; ich konnte gehn,
Und alles wäre ungeschehn,
Und alles wäre rein und klar,
Wie es vor jenem Tage war!

Es mußte sein. Die Stunde kam,
Die kurze, schwüle, und sie nahm
Unwandelbar mit jähem Schritt
Den ganzen Glanz der Jugend mit.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Die Stunde", written 1901

2. Lulu
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Flüchtig wie auf hohen Matten
Einer Wolke scheuer Schatten
Rührte mich mit leisem Wehe
Deiner Schönheit stille Nähe.

Zwischen Traum und Traum zuweilen
Will das Leben mich ereilen,
Glänzt so gold und lockt so heiter,
Und erlischt - ich träume weiter.

Träume von den Augenblicken
Des Erwachens - von Geschicken,
Deren Schatten ob mir liefen,
Während meine Augen schliefen.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Lulu", written 1899, appears in Neue deutsche Lyriker III , in Buch der Liebe, first published 1919

3. Harte Menschen
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie ist euer Blick so hart,
Will alles versteinen,
Ist nicht der kleinste Traum darin,
Ist alles kalte Gegenwart.

Mag denn in eurem Sinn
Gar keine Sonne scheinen?
Und müsset ihr nicht weinen,
Daß ihr nie Kinder wart?

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Harte Menschen", written 1912
