Ich halte, Edlitam, Am Fenster hier Wacht -- Schon deckt die Gefilde Rings finstere Nacht. Hier steh' ich allnächtig Und singe ein Lied -- Und singe was mächtig Das Herz mir durchzieht. Von Lieben und Hoffen, Von Freude und Pein -- Das Fenster steht offen, Das Lied tönt hinein. Und schallen die Töne Zur Liebsten in's Haus, Dann steckt meine Schöne Ihr Köpfchen heraus. Sie reicht mir das Händchen Und giebt mir den Dank -- Vorbei ist das Ständchen, Es schweigt der Gesang . .
