Sie blüht und glüht und leuchtet
Und starret stumm in die Höh';
Sie duftet und weinet und zittert

Il fiore di loto è una fanciulla che ha paura
dello splendore del sole,
e col capo reclinato
aspetta sognando la notte.

Il dio della luna, che è il suo amante,
la desta con la sua luce,
e lei gli svela amico
il suo viso devoto di fiore.

Fiorisce, arde e brilla,
e guarda muta verso l'alto;
profuma, e piange e trema
per amore e pena d'amore.
