Ja, spanne nur den Bogen, mich zu tödten,
Du himmlisch Weib! im zürnenden Erröthen
Noch reitzender. Ich werd' es nie bereuen:

Daß ich dich sah am blühenden Gestade
Die Nymphen überragen in dem Bade;
Der Schönheit Funken in die Wildniß streuen.

Den Sterbenden wird noch dein Bild erfreuen.
Er athmet reiner, er athmet freyer,
Wem du gestrahlet ohne Schleyer.

Dein Pfeil, er traf - doch linde rinnen
Die warmen Wellen aus der Wunde:
Noch zittert vor den matten Sinnen
Des Schauens süße letzte Stunde.

Please note: the title of this poem is not a mistake, as many have written to tell us. "Der" is the feminine dative case of the definite article; and the adjective that follows uses the proper matching weak-inflection ending.

Sì, tendi il tuo arco e uccidimi,
tu donna divina! Nel tuo rossore adirato
più eccitante ancora. Non provo nessun rimpianto

di averti contemplato, sulla riva boscosa,
mentre dominavi sulle altre Ninfe al bagno, 
diffondendo scintille di Bellezza nella natura.
 
Muoio, ma della tua immagine gioisco ancora.
Più puro, più libero è il respiro,
ora che senza veli risplendi.

Mi ha colpito la freccia, ma confortante scorre
Una caldo fiotto dalla mia ferita;
I miei sensi ormai deboli tremano ancora
Nel contemplarti in questa ora estrema.

Wenn über Berge sich der Nebel breitet,
Und Luna mit Gewölken kämpft,
So nimmt der Alte seine Harfe, und schreitet,
Und singt waldeinwärts und gedämpft:
      "Du heil'ge Nacht!
      Bald ist's vollbracht.
      Bald schlaf ich ihn
      Den langen Schlummer,
      Der mich erlöst 
      Von allem Kummer."
   Die grünen Bäume rauschen dann,
   Schlaf süß du guter alter Mann;
   Die Gräser lispeln wankend fort,
   Wir decken seinen Ruheort;
   Und mancher liebe Vogel ruft,
   O laß ihn ruh'n in Rasengruft! -

Der Alte horcht, der Alte schweigt -
Der Tod hat sich zu ihm geneigt.

2. Notturno
Language: Italian (Italiano) 
 Quando sui monti si spande la nebbia
 e Luna combatte contro le nuvole,
 prende il vecchio la sua arpa e s'incammina,
 inoltrandosi nel bosco canta sommesso:

 "Tu notte santa:
 presto sarà compiuto,
 presto mi addormenterò, nel lungo sonno
 che mi libera da ogni pena". 

 Allora mormorano gli alberi verdi:
 "dormi pure tranquillo, buon vecchio";
 le erbe bisbigliano, sempre inchinandosi:
 "noi proteggiamo il luogo del suo riposo";

 e gli uccelletti cantano:
 "oh, fatelo riposare nella tomba del prato!" 
 Il vecchio ascolta, il vecchio tace,
 la morte gli è accanto.
