Ja, spanne nur den Bogen, mich zu tödten,
Du himmlisch Weib! im zürnenden Erröthen
Noch reitzender. Ich werd' es nie bereuen:

Daß ich dich sah am blühenden Gestade
Die Nymphen überragen in dem Bade;
Der Schönheit Funken in die Wildniß streuen.

Den Sterbenden wird noch dein Bild erfreuen.
Er athmet reiner, er athmet freyer,
Wem du gestrahlet ohne Schleyer.

Dein Pfeil, er traf - doch linde rinnen
Die warmen Wellen aus der Wunde:
Noch zittert vor den matten Sinnen
Des Schauens süße letzte Stunde.

Please note: the title of this poem is not a mistake, as many have written to tell us. "Der" is the feminine dative case of the definite article; and the adjective that follows uses the proper matching weak-inflection ending.

Sí, tesa l'arc per matar-me
tu dona divina! En la rubor furiosa
encara ets més encisadora. Mai me'n penediré:

d'haver-te vist a la riba plena de matolls
senyorejant les nimfes en el bany;
escampant guspires de beutat per la forest.

La teva imatge farà gaudir el moribund.
Més pur, més lliure és el l'alenar,
del que al seu davant has resplendit sense vel.

La teva fletxa ha colpit – però dolçament
s'escolen tèbies ones de la ferida:
els meus febles sentits tremolen encara
al contemplar-te en aquest dolç, darrer moment.

Wenn über Berge sich der Nebel breitet,
Und Luna mit Gewölken kämpft,
So nimmt der Alte seine Harfe, und schreitet,
Und singt waldeinwärts und gedämpft:
      "Du heil'ge Nacht!
      Bald ist's vollbracht.
      Bald schlaf ich ihn
      Den langen Schlummer,
      Der mich erlöst 
      Von allem Kummer."
   Die grünen Bäume rauschen dann,
   Schlaf süß du guter alter Mann;
   Die Gräser lispeln wankend fort,
   Wir decken seinen Ruheort;
   Und mancher liebe Vogel ruft,
   O laß ihn ruh'n in Rasengruft! -

Der Alte horcht, der Alte schweigt -
Der Tod hat sich zu ihm geneigt.

2. Nocturn

Quan damunt les muntanyes s’escampa la boira
i la lluna pugna amb les nuvolades,
el vell agafa la seva arpa i camina
vers el bosc tot cantant amb veu baixa:

“Tu sagrada nit:
aviat tot s’haurà acabat,
aviat dormiré el somni etern
que m’alliberarà de tota pena.”

Llavors els verds arbres mormolen:
“Adorma’t dolçament, tu bondadós, vell home.”
L’herbatge vacil·lant xiuxiueja:
“Cobriré el lloc on reposis.”
I mants ocells encisadors canten:
“Oh, deixeu-lo reposar en el sepulcre d’herbei!”
El vell para l’orella, el vell no diu res,
la mort és al seu costat.
