Und dir in's Auge schaun,
Die blaue Nacht mag leise nun
Auf uns herniederthaun,
Schon tauchet aus dem stillen See
Des Mondes Bild empor,
Und kühner streift das scheue Reh
Durch Wald und Wiesenmoor.

Mein Haupt laß ruhn auf deinem Schooß,
Da ruht es sanft und weich.
Wie ist der Himmel weit und groß,
Wie ist die Erde reich!
Der schönste Stern in blauer Nacht,
Der schönste Stern bist du,
In deines Lichtes sanfter Pracht
O gönne mir die Ruh!

An deinem Herzen laß mich ruhn
Nur kurze, seelge Zeit!
Kein Lauscher kündet unser Thun,

For only a short, blessed time!
No eavesdropper shall tell of what we do,
The world has been made immune by dreams.

Before yet the night glimmers out,
Until our soul, dreaming now,
Dissolves in bliss!
