Die ganze [Nacht]2 gesungen;
Da sind von ihrem süssen Schall,
Da sind [in]3 Hall und Widerhall
Die [Rosen]4 aufgesprungen.
 
Sie war doch sonst ein wildes [Kind]5,
[Nun]6 geht sie [tief]7 in Sinnen,
Trägt in der Hand den Sommerhut
Und duldet [still]8 der Sonne Glut
Und weiß nicht, was beginnen.

Das macht, es hat die Nachtigall
Die ganze Nacht gesungen;
Da sind von ihrem süssen Schall,

Això és perquè el rossinyol
ha cantat tota la nit;
a causa del seu dolç cant,
i per el seu so i ressò,
han florit les roses.

Ella era abans una noia feréstega,
i ara reblerta de seny, 
porta a la mà el barret d'estiu,
suportant en silenci la xardor del sol,
sense saber ben bé què fer.

Això és perquè el rossinyol
ha cantat tota la nit;
a causa del seu dolç cant,
i per el seu so i ressò,
han florit les roses.

Wie liegt im [Mondenlichte]1
[Begraben]2 nun die Welt;
Wie selig ist der Friede,
Der sie umfangen hält! 

Die Winde müssen schweigen,
So sanft ist dieser Schein;
Sie säuseln nur und weben
Und schlafen endlich ein. 

Und was in Tagesgluten
Zur Blüte nicht erwacht,
Es öffnet seine Kelche
Und duftet in die Nacht. 

Wie bin ich solchen Friedens
Seit lange nicht gewohnt! 
Sei du in meinem Leben
Der liebevolle Mond!
