Herab so bang und schwer,
Wir beide traurig gingen
Im Garten hin und her.

So [heiß und]2 stumm, so trübe
[Und]3 sternlos war die Nacht,
So ganz, wie unsre Liebe,
Zu Tränen nur gemacht.

Und als ich mußte scheiden
Und gute Nacht [dir]4 bot,
Wünscht' ich bekümmert beiden
Im Herzen uns den Tod.

Fait seulement pour les larmes.

Et quand je dus partir
Et te souhaiter bonne nuit,
Éploré, je souhaitais pour nous deux
La mort, du fond du cœur.

Durch den Wald, den dunkeln, geht
Holde Frühlingsmorgenstunde, 
Durch den Wald vom Himmel weht
Eine leise Liebeskunde.

Selig lauscht der grüne Baum,
Und er taucht mit allen Zweigen
In den schönen Frühlingstraum,
In den vollen Lebensreigen.

Blüht ein [Blümlein]1 irgendwo,
Wird's vom hellen Tau getränket,
Das [einsame]2 zittert froh,
Daß der Himmel sein gedenket.

In geheimer Laubesnacht
Wird des Vogels Herz getroffen
Von der [großen Liebesmacht]3,
Und er singt ein süßes Hoffen.

All' das frohe Lenzgeschick 
Nicht ein Wort des Himmels kündet,
Nur sein stummer, warmer Blick
Hat die Seligkeit entzündet;

Also in den Winterharm,
Der die Seele hielt bezwungen,
Ist dein Blick mir, still und warm,
Frühlingsmächtig eingedrungen.

Les douces heures du matin de printemps,
À travers la forêt du ciel, soufflent
De douces nouvelles d'amour.

Béat l'arbre vert écoute
Et il plonge avec toutes ses branches
Dans le beau rêve de printemps,
Dans la ronde pleine de la vie.

Si une petite fleur apparaît,
Elle est arrosée de rosée brillante,
Solitaire et tremblant de joie
Que le ciel ait pensé à elle.

Dans le feuillage secret de la nuit,
Le cœur de l'oiseau a été frappé
Par la grande force de l'amour,
Et il chante une douce espérance.

Tout le talent du joyeux printemps,
Pas un mot céleste ne le proclame,
Seulement son silence, son regard chaleureux
Ont enflammé le bonheur.

Ainsi dans l'affliction de l'hiver
Qui tient mon âme captive
C'est ton regard silencieux et chaleureux,
Avec la force du printemps, qui me pénètre.
