Ihr Wünsche, die ihr stets euch reget
Im Herzen sonder Rast und Ruh';
Du Sehnen, das die Brust beweget,
Wann ruhest du, wann schlummerst du?
Beim Lispeln der Winde, der Vögelein,
Ihr sehnenden Wünsche, wann schlaft ihr ein?

Mein Geist auf Traumgefieder eilt,

Toi, la nostalgie, qui émeut la poitrine,
Quand trouverez-vous le repos, quand dormirez-vous ?
Dans le murmure des vents, des petits oiseaux,
Vous, désirs ardents, quand trouverez-vous le sommeil ?

Hélas, quand dans le lointain doré cessera
Mon esprit de se hâter sur les ailes des rêves,
Quand vers les étoiles toujours lointaines cesseront
