Ihr Wünsche, die ihr stets euch reget
Im Herzen sonder Rast und Ruh';
Du Sehnen, das die Brust beweget,
Wann ruhest du, wann schlummerst du?
Beim Lispeln der Winde, der Vögelein,
Ihr sehnenden Wünsche, wann schlaft ihr ein?

el vent de la tarda bufa suaument.
Què mormolen el vent i els ocellets?
Bressolen el món perquè s'adormi.
Desitjos, vosaltres que us agiteu al cor
sense pau ni repòs!
Enyorança, tu que l'ànima conmous
quan descansaràs, quan t'adormiràs?
Amb la remor del vent, dels ocellets,
desitjos ansiosos, no us adormireu?

Die ihr schwebet Um diese Palmen In Nacht und Wind, Ihr heilgen Engel, Stillet die Wipfel! Es schlummert mein Kind. Ihr Palmen von Bethlehem Im Windesbrausen, Wie mögt ihr heute So zornig sausen! O rauscht nicht also! Schweiget, neiget Euch leis und lind; Stillet die Wipfel! Es schlummert mein Kind. Der Himmelsknabe Duldet Beschwerde, Ach, wie so müd er ward Vom Leid der Erde. Ach nun im Schlaf ihm Leise gesänftigt Die Qual zerrinnt, Stillet die Wipfel! Es schlummert mein Kind. Grimmige Kälte Sauset hernieder, Womit nur deck ich Des Kindleins Glieder! Vosaltres que voleu al voltant d’aquestes palmeres en la nit i el vent, vosaltres, àngels sants, feu callar les capçades! El meu infant dorm. Vosaltres, palmeres de Betlem en el bramul del vent, com podeu avui xiular amb tanta fúria! Oh, no feu tanta fressa! Calleu, vincleu-vos tranquil•la i suaument; feu callar les capçades! El meu infant dorm. L’infant del cel pateix les molèsties, ai, que cansat està per les penes de la terra. Ai, ara en el son, suaument ablanida, la pena s’esvaeix, feu callar les capçades! El meu infant dorm. Un fred penetrant s’abat cap aquí, amb què podré cobrir el cos del petit infant! Oh àngels, tots vosaltres que amb les vostres ales voleu en el vent, feu callar les capçades! El meu infant dorm.
