Allnächtlich im Traume seh' ich dich
Und sehe dich freundlich grüßen,
Und laut aufweinend stürz' ich mich
Zu deinen süßen Füßen.

Du [siehst]1 mich an wehmütiglich
Und schüttelst das blonde Köpfchen;
Aus deinen Augen [schleichen sich  
Die Perlentränentröpfchen]2.

Du [sagst]3 mir heimlich ein leises Wort
Und gibst mir den Strauß von Zypressen.
Ich wache auf, und der Strauß ist fort,
[Und das]4 Wort hab' ich vergessen.

Tutte le notti in sogno ti vedo,
e ti vedo salutare amica,
e piangendo forte io mi prostro
dolcemente ai tuoi piedi.

Tu mi guardi malinconica
e scuoti la testina bionda;
dai tuoi occhi scivolano
gocce di perle.

Tu mi dici in segreto una parola sommessa
e mi offri un mazzo di rami di cipresso.
Io mi sveglio, ed il mazzo è scomparso,
e la parola, l'ho dimenticata.
