Vom Berg [hinabgestiegen]1
Ist nun des Tages Rest;
Mein Kind liegt in der Wiegen,
Die [Vöglein]2 all' im Nest;
Nur ein ganz klein Singvögelein
Ruft weit daher im Dämmerschein:
"Gut' Nacht! gut' Nacht!
Lieb' Kindlein, gute Nacht!"

Das Spielzeug ruht im Schreine,
Die Kleider auf der Bank,
Ein [Mäuschen]3 ganz alleine
Es raschelt noch im Schrank,
Und draußen steht der Abendstern
Und winkt dem Kind aus weiter Fern':
"Gut' Nacht! gut' Nacht!
Lieb' Kindlein, gute Nacht!"

Die Wiege geht im Gleise,
Die Uhr [pickt]4 hin und her,
Die Fliegen nur ganz leise
[Sie]5 summen noch daher. 
Ihr Fliegen, laßt mein Kind in Ruh'!
Was [summt]6 ihr ihm so heimlich zu?
"Gut' Nacht! gut' Nacht!
Lieb' Kindlein, gute Nacht!"

Der Vogel und die Sterne,
[Die Fliegen]7 rings umher,
Sie haben mein Kind [schon]8 gerne,
Die Engel noch viel mehr. 
Sie decken's mit den Flügeln zu
Und singen leise: "Schlaf in Ruh!
Gut' Nacht! gut' Nacht!
Lieb' Kindlein, gute Nacht!"

Baixant de la muntanya,
ara és el repòs del dia;
el meu infant és al bressol,
els ocellets tots al seu niu;
tan sols un petit cant d’ocell
crida al lluny en el crepuscle:
“Bona nit! Bona nit!
Estimat petit infant, bona nit!”

Les joguines reposen al cofre,
els vestits a la banqueta,
un ratolí, tot sol,
remoreja a l’armari,
i al cel, l’estrella del vespre
fa senyals a l’infant des de la llunyania:
“Bona nit! Bona nit!
Estimat petit infant, bona nit!”

El bressol es gronxa damunt els seus llistons,
el rellotge fa tic-tac,
tan sols les mosques
fan un lleuger brunzit a l’entorn.
Mosques, deixeu en pau el meu infant!
Què li brunzineu tan furtivament?
“Bona nit! Bona nit!
Estimat petit infant, bona nit!”

Els ocells i les estrelles,
les mosques, tot a l’entorn
estimen certament el meu infant,
els àngels encara més,
l’abriguen amb les seves ales
i canten fluixet: “Dorm en pau!
Bona nit! Bona nit!
Estimat petit infant, bona nit!”

Note: in many older editions, the spelling of the capitalized word "über" becomes "Ueber", but this is often due to the printing process and not to rules of orthography, since the lower-case version is not "ueber", so we use "Über".
