Ciclo de canções

Song Cycle by Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856)

Word count: 835
Original language: Liederkreis von Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff
1. In der Fremde [sung text checked 1 time]
Aus der Heimat hinter den Blitzen rot
Da kommen die Wolken her,

1. No estrangeiro
Lá ninguém me conhece mais.

Tão logo, tão logo virá o tempo da paz,
Então descansarei também, e sobre mim
Sussurra a bela solidão dos bosques,
E ninguém me conhece mais aqui.

2. Intermezzo [sung text checked 1 time]
Dein Bildnis wunderselig
Hab ich im Herzensgrund,
Das sieht so frisch und fröhlich
Mich an zu jeder Stund'.

Mein Herz still in sich singet
Ein altes schönes Lied,
Das in die Luft sich schwinget
Und zu dir eilig zieht.

2. Intermezzo
Teu retrato celestial
Tenho no fundo do meu coração,
Ele me olha com tanto frescor e alegria
A toda hora.

3. Waldesgespräch [sung text checked 1 time]

O flieh!

"Du kennst mich wohl - von hohem Stein
Schaut still mein Schloß tief in den Rhein.

"Tu bem me conheces, do alto da rocha
Tranquilamente observa meu castelo o rio Reno.
Já é tarde, já está frio,
Nunca mais sairás desta floresta!"

4. Die Stille [sung text checked 1 time]

4. A quietude

As estrelas no alto.

5. Mondnacht [sung text checked 1 time]
Es war, als hätt' der Himmel,
Die Erde still geküßt,
Daß sie im Blütenschimmer
Von ihm [nun]1 träumen müßt.

Die Luft ging durch die Felder,
Die Ähren wogten sacht,
Es rauschten leis die Wälder,
So sternklar war die Nacht.

Und meine Seele spannte
Weit ihre Flügel aus,
Flog durch die stillen [Lande]2,
Als flöge sie nach Haus.

5. Noite de luar
Foi como se o céu
Tivesse beijado a terra,

As espigas balançavam brandamente,
Sussurravam mansamente as florestas,
A noite brilhava com tantas estrelas.

E minha alma espraiava
Amplamente suas asas,
Voava pelas terras tranqüilas
Como se voasse para casa.

6. Schöne Fremde [sung text checked 1 time]
Es rauschen die Wipfel und schauern,
Als machten zu dieser Stund
Um die halbversunkenen Mauern
Die alten Götter die Rund.

Hier hinter den Myrtenbäumen
In heimlich dämmernder Pracht,
Was sprichst du wirr wie in Träumen
Zu mir, phantastische Nacht?

Es funkeln auf mich alle Sterne
Mit glühendem Liebesblick,
Es redet trunken die Ferne
Wie vom künftigem, großem Glück.

6. Belas terras estrangeiras

Murmura ébria a distância
Como que de uma grande felicidade vindoura.

7. Auf einer Burg [sung text checked 1 time]
Eingeschlafen auf der Lauer
Oben ist der alte Ritter;
Drüber gehen Regenschauer,
Und der Wald rauscht durch das Gitter.

Eingewachsen Bart und Haare
Und versteinert Brust und Krause,
Sitzt er viele hundert Jahre
Oben in der stillen Klause.

Draußen ist es still' und friedlich,
Alle sind ins Tal gezogen,
Waldesvögel einsam singen
In den leeren Fensterbogen.

Eine Hochzeit fährt da unten
Auf dem Rhein im Sonnenscheine,
Musikanten spielen munter,
Und die schöne Braut, die weinet.

7. Em um castelo
Adormecido no mirador
No alto se encontra o antigo fidalgo;

Peito e colarinho empedernidos
Lá está ele há muitos séculos
Em sua silenciosa clausura.

Lá fora há paz e quietude
Todos seguiram para o vale,
Pássaros do bosque cantam solitários
Nos arcos de janela vazios.

Um casamento acontece lá embaixo
No rio Reno ao sol.
Músicos tocam animadamente
E a bela noiva, esta chora.

8. In der Fremde [sung text checked 1 time]
Ich hör' [die]1 Bächlein rauschen
Im Walde her und hin,
Im Walde in dem Rauschen
Ich weiß nicht, wo ich bin.

Die Nachtigallen schlagen
Hier in der Einsamkeit,
Als wollten sie was sagen
Von [der alten, schönen]2 Zeit.

Die Mondesschimmer fliegen,
Als [seh']3 ich unter mir
Das Schloß im Thale liegen,
Und ist doch so weit von hier!

Als müßte in dem Garten
Voll Rosen weiß und roth,

Und ist [doch lange]5 todt.

O castelo no vale

9. Melancolia
Eu posso por vezes cantar
Como se fosse feliz,
Porém secretamente as lágrimas correm

10. Zwielicht [sung text checked 1 time]
Dämmrung will die Flügel spreiten,
Schaurig rühren sich die Bäume,
Wolken ziehn wie schwere Träume -
Was will dieses Grau'n bedeuten?

Hast ein Reh du lieb vor andern,
Laß es nicht alleine grasen,
Jäger ziehn im Wald und blasen,
Stimmen hin und wieder wandern.

Hast du einen Freund hienieden,
Trau ihm nicht zu dieser Stunde,
Freundlich wohl mit Aug' und Munde,
Sinnt er Krieg im tück'schen Frieden.

Was heut [müde gehet]1 unter,
Hebt sich morgen neu geboren.
Manches [bleibt]2 in Nacht verloren -
Hüte dich, [bleib]3 wach und munter!

Confirmed with Joseph Freiherrn von Eichendorffs sämtlich poetische Werk, Zweiter Band, Dritte Auflage, Leipzig, C. F. Amelang's Verlag, 1883, p. 436.

Note: some 20th century editions of Eichendorff have "wider" instead of "wieder" in stanza 2, line 4, but "wieder" is prevalent in the editions that came out in the 19th century. (With thanks to Alfred Liebel for pointing this out.)

10. Penumbra

11. Im Walde [sung text checked 1 time]

1 Schumann adds an additional stanza here (op.75):
3 Schumann: "schauert's"

11. Na floresta
Passava um casamento pela montanha,
Eu ouvia os pássaros a cantar,
Brilhavam as armaduras, soava a trombeta
Era uma caça animada!

E antes que pudesse perceber, tudo acabou,
E a noite tudo cobriu.
E do fundo do coração, estremeci.

12. Frühlingsnacht [sung text checked 1 time]

[Alte]2 Wunder wieder scheinen
Mit dem [Mondesglanz]3 herein.

Und der Mond, die Sterne sagen's,
Und im [Träumen]4 rauscht's der Hain,
Und die Nachtigallen schlagen's:
Sie ist deine! Sie ist dein!

12.
Por sobre o jardim, pelos espaços
Ouço os pássaros nômades,
Isto anuncia o perfume da primavera,
Lá embaixo tudo começa a florescer.

E a lua e as estrelas o anunciam,
E em sonhos murmuram os campos,
E os rouxinóis o cantam:
Ela é tua, ela é tua!
