Hat sich allein geweiht mein Ohr; 
Freiwillig öffnet sich die Pforte, 
Und läßet ein den Himmelschor.
Und kommt ein fremdes Wort davor, 
So weis't der Wächter es vom Orte: 
"Zurück!  das ist der Liebe Thor." 

Kein Wörtchen geht verloren, 
Das deinem leisen Mund entkam, 
Und seis so still geboren, 
Daß es sich selber kaum vernahm.  
Oft zürnen meine Ohren,  
Daß es durch sie den Weg nicht nahm; 
Weiß nicht, zu welchen Thoren 
Es ein zur Stadt des Herzen kam.
