Schlug der Schüler auf der Tamburine,
War von [lautrem]1 Gold die Tamburine,
Ihre Saiten waren Mädchenhaare,
Und der Schlägel eine Falkenfeder.
Schaut ihn, hoch vom Söller aus, das Mädchen,
Schaut ihn an, und sprach in ihrem Herzen:

"Lieber Gott! welch wundersamer Jüngling!
Wenn Du diesen mir zum Glückstheil gäbest,
Nelken wollt' ich ihm zum Lager streuen,
[Rothe Rosen]2 unter seinem Haupte,
Daß der süße Duft ihn oft erwecke,
Und er mir das weiße Antlitz küsse!" -
