I skäraste morgongryning,
när dimmorna gå i rött,
har jag på en purpurdyning
vårdrömmarnas drottning mött.

Jag såg henne långsamt gunga
mot strandens förvuxna snår,
och sorgset skaka sitt tunga
och glänsande långa hår.

När talltrasten stämde i lunden
yrvaken sin första drill,
när vågorna väcktes i sunden,
då var hon ej längre till.

Det sägs om en dödlig, som möter
den översinnliga så,
att han uti livet stöter
på faror, hvart än han må gå.

Han bär dock inom sig sin fara,
den blir han ej nå'nsin fri,
den farliga bilderskara,
som kallas för fantasi.

Dans l'aube la plus pure

Dans l'aube la plus pure,
lorsque les nuages virent au rouge,
j'ai sur la houle pourpre,
rencontré la reine des songes du printemps.

Je la vis se balancer lentement,
sur le rivage envahi de broussailles,
et tristement secouer son épaisse,
longue et brillante chevelure.

Lorsque la grive entonna dans le bois
mal réveillé ses premières trilles,
lorsque les vagues s'éveillèrent dans le détroit,
elle ne se trouvait déjà plus là.

On dit d'un mortel qui rencontre
ainsi le surnaturel,
que dans la vie il se heurtera
à des dangers où qu'il aille.

Il porte toutefois en lui un danger,
dont il ne sera jamais libéré,
la multitude de dangereuses images
que l'on appelle rêverie.
