Die Nacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE
Du verstörst uns nicht, o Nacht!
Sieh! wir trinken im Gebüsche;
Und ein kühler Wind erwacht,
Daß er unsern Wein erfrische.

  Mutter holder Dunkelheit,
Nacht! Vertraute süßer Sorgen,
Die betrogner Wachsamkeit
Viele Küsse schon verborgen!

  Dir allein sey mitbewußt,
Welch Vergnügen mich berausche,
Wann ich an geliebter Brust
Unter Thau und Bluhmen lausche!

  Murmelt ihr, wann alles ruht,
Murmelt, sanftbewegte Bäume,
Bey dem Sprudeln heischrer Fluth,
Mich in wollustvolle Träume!

Night
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
You don’t disturb us, oh night!
See, we drink beneath the shrubbery,
And a cool wind stirs,
And makes our wine refreshing.

  Mother, faithful darkness,
Night! confidante of our sweetest sorrows,
You have cheated vigilance
By the many kisses you’ve already hidden!

  You alone understand,
What pleasure intoxicates me,
When I, upon her bloved breast
rest beneath dew and flowers!

They murmur to her, when all are asleep,
Murmur, gently moving trees,
In the effervescence of the imploring stream,
I revel in lascivious dreams!
