Der Maiabend
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT ENG FRE
Umweht von Maiduft, unter des Blütenbaums
Helldunkel sahn wir Abendgewölk verglüh'n,
  Des vollen Mond's Aufgang erwartend,
    Und Filomelengesäng' im Thalbusch.

Lau war die Dämmrung, traulicher scherzten wir
Mit nachgeahmter Fröhlichkeit. Bald verstummt
In holdem Tiefsinn, saß das Mägdlein,
Stammelte: wollen wir gehn? und ging nicht.

Die Hand in meiner zitterte. Bleib, o bleib!
Kaum athmend lallt' ich's. Wonne! da fügten wir,
  Nach manchem Freundschaftskuss, den Brautkuss,
    Nicht Filomela noch Mond bemerkend.

De Meiavond
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Omwaaid door meigeur, onder de lommerrijke bloeiboom,
Zien wij ’t licht in de lucht vergaan,
De komst der volle maan afwachtend
En Filomela’s gezang in ‘t dalbos.

Zoel was de scheem’ring, plagerig schertsten wij,
Met nagespeelde vrolijkheid, gauw verstomd;
Heel lief nadenkend zat het meisje,
Fluisterde ‘zullen wij gaan?’ en ging niet.
