Hoch auf dem Berg, im braunen Moose, Vom Eis umglänzt und halb verschneit, Blüht still empor die Alpenrose: Ein süß Gedicht der Einsamkeit. Der lauen Frühlingslüfte Fächeln Küßt ihre jungen Blätter nicht! Sie steht wie ein verloren Lächeln Im starren Felsenangesicht. Die kalten Gletscherwände steigen Antürmend mächtig Stück für Stück, Und unbemerkt im ew'gen Schweigen Wächst sie wie ein verschwiegen Glück. O selig der, dem wohlgeborgen Im oft durchfrosteten Gemüt Hoch über allen Erdensorgen So eine süße Blume blüht!
