Im Traum sah ich die Geliebte Ein banges, bekümmertes Weib, Verwelkt und abgefallen Der sonst so blühende Leib. Ein Kind trug sie auf dem Arme, Ein andres führt sie an der Hand, Und sichtbar ist Armut und Trübsal Am Gang und Blick und Gewand. Sie schwankte über den Marktplatz, Und da begegnet sie mir Und sieht mich an, und ruhig Und schmerzlich sag ich zu ihr: Komm mit nach meinem Hause, Denn du bist blaß und krank; Ich will durch Fleiß und Arbeit Dir schaffen Speis' und Trank. Ich will auch pflegen und warten Die Kinder, die bei dir sind, Vor allem aber dich selber, Du armes, unglückliches Kind. Ich will dir nie erzählen, Daß ich dich geliebet hab', Und wenn du stirbst, so will ich Weinen auf deinem Grab.
