Sérénade mélancolique
(Sung text for setting by J. Bleichmann)
 See original
Language: French (Français)
Viens entendre sous la feuillée,
La dernière chanson des nids
Et les murmures infinis
De la forêt ensommeillée.
Tout se taira dans un instant,
Sous la grande aile du silence
Qui, dans l'air tiède encor, balance
Des doux rêves l'essaim flottant.
-- Dans la brise qui pleure,
   Ô mon amour,
Écoute passer l'heure
   Où fuit le jour !

 ...

Viens contempler dans la vallée
Le dernier éclat du couchant.
La lune, à l'horizon penchant,
De blanches vapeurs est voilée.
Et parmi l'extase du soir,
On dirait qu'au bord de la nue
  une divine est venue
allumer un large encensoir.
Regarde, bienaimée, au ciel lointain,
remonter la fumée du jour,
  du jour éteint!
